One of the top ten places to visit in Taipei city is quite an adventure... Before going to the night market be sure to not eat for at least 6 or 7 hours because half of the market is about food..
Today as my friend Yin (one of my Taiwanese friends) and I were walking through the night market we were saying that the best way to have fun when traveling is by being open to eat anything.. and by anything I mean not only rare food, but also quantity of food because if a traveler is not open to try new foods and flavors instead of having a good time, visits such as the night market in Taipei can get to be quite unpleasant.
But why is eating such an important element when traveling? Well because it involves with the culture and the atmosphere of a place. Just like today at the night market, As I was eating all that food I could got involved in the moment and I could forget all those aromas of stinky tofu and really enjoy my food and the moment.. If I were to be in the same place but without being immerse in the life of the market, I would have been a different kind of experience, we would have such a good time. At the market we had a crispy chicken steak that my friend Yin ordered super spicy and it was delicious, but very spicy.
Now I know how foreigners feel when visiting Oaxaca after the persuasion of all Oaxacans to get them to eat Grasshoppers, since the stinky tofu in Taipei is "the delicatessen" to eat, just like the grasshoppers in my hometown Oaxaca...
